| Background | alpha 1-acid Glycoprotein, also known as orosomucoid-1, is a positive acute-phase reactant that is produced by the liver and secreted in plasma. Plasma alpha 1-acid concentration increases in response to inflammation and infection. alpha 1-acid glycoprotein belongs to the lipocalin family and binds numerous basic and neutral lipophilic drugs and steroid hormones. It is a 183 amino acid protein with 5 N-linked glycans that comprises 45% of the 43 kDa mass of the protein. The human and mouse protein share 43% amino acid sequence identity. |
